How the Remove PDF Watermark works
- Your PDF is read into the browser and parsed by pdf-lib, a client-side PDF manipulation library.
- Each page's content stream is decoded and scanned for text strings that exactly match the watermark text you entered.
- Matching watermark text is blanked out; all other content is left untouched, so text, images and links carry over without re-rendering.
- The result is a standard .pdf file with the watermark gone, ready to download and share. If no matching text watermark is found, the tool tells you rather than producing a misleading output.

- Type the exact watermark text — the match is case-insensitive but must equal the watermark, not a sentence containing it.
- If a document has several different watermarks, run the tool once for each text.

Is my PDF sent to a server?+
No. The entire removal runs in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDF is never uploaded to any server, so it is safe to remove watermarks from sensitive documents like contracts or invoices.
Can it remove any watermark?+
Text watermarks — drawn as a text layer — yes, cleanly and losslessly. Image-based or rasterised watermarks are baked into the page and can't be removed losslessly. The tool tells you when no matching text watermark is found.
Do I need to enter the watermark text?+
Yes. Type the exact watermark text (for example, CONFIDENTIAL). The match is case-insensitive and ignores leading and trailing spaces. Only matching text is removed; everything else is left untouched.
Does it reduce the quality of the original content?+
No. Only the matching watermark text is blanked out — text, images, vectors and links all carry over without re-rendering or recompression. The output is identical to the original apart from the removed watermark.
Can I remove a watermark from a password-protected PDF?+
No. Encrypted PDFs can't be read without the password. Remove the password first, then clean the unprotected copy.
