How the JSON Formatter works
- Your text is parsed using the browser's built-in JSON parser.
- For formatting, the parsed object is re-serialised with 2-space indentation.
- For minifying, it is re-serialised with no extra whitespace.
- If parsing fails, the error position is converted to a line and column so you can find the problem fast.

Frequently asked questions
Is my JSON sent to a server?+
No. All formatting, validation and minifying happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
What does the validator check?+
It parses your input with the standard JSON parser and reports the exact location of any syntax error, including the line and column where parsing failed.
Can I format very large JSON files?+
Yes. Because processing is local, the limit is your device's memory. Very large files may take a moment but will not be uploaded anywhere.
Does it preserve my data?+
No data is saved. When you leave or refresh the page, everything is gone. Use the Download button if you want to keep a copy.
